A new study has named Texas as the second-best state for basketball in the US, with the second-highest index score in a new ultimate ranking.
NBA experts atFadeaway Worldanalyzedmultiple factors to create the ultimate basketball ranking todeterminethe ‘best’ states for basketball.They looked at the birth places of NBAandWNBAplayers andHall of Fameinductees, the number of NBA, WNBA, GLeague and NCAA Division 1 teams, and the number of NBA, WNBA, NCAA champions in each state.

Californiais revealed to be the best state for basketball,with thetopscorefor theanalyzedfactors.A staggering443 NBA players and 95 WNBA players were born in the state, which is the highest on the list. Californiais home to the most NBAand WNBAteams in the US,such as the Golden State Warriors andthe new Golden State Valkyries,whichareresponsible forwinning 25 NBA Championships and 4 WNBA Championships–also the highest numbers in the ranking.
In second place isTexas, which has produced 211 NBA players and 66 WNBA players, of which sixare Hall of Fame inductees.The state is home to three NBA teams, including the Dallas Mavericks and Houston Rockets, as well as three G League teams and 25 NCAA Division 1 teams.
Next isNew York, which has producedthe second highest number of maleand femaleNBA players, as well asthe most Hall of Fame inducteesin the list, at22 players. The state is home to theNew York Knicks and the Brooklyn Nets, as well astheWNBA team, theNew York Liberty.
Fourth on the list isIllinois, witha total of 302 male NBA players and 31 female NBA players coming from the state,of whichninehave beeninducted intotheHall of Fame.Illinois’ home NBA teams are the Chicago Bulls andthe Chicago Sky.
Indianais in fifth place,producing 199 NBA and WNBA players,withthreeinducted into the Hall of Fame.TheWNBA team, the Indiana Fever, won thechampionship in 2012, as well as a total ofsixNCAA men’s and women’s championships.
The sixth best state for basketball isMichigan, with 170 male NBA players and 31 female NBA players being born in the state, of whichfiveare in the Hall of Fame.Michigan is home tothe Detroit Pistons andthe Detroit Shock, with the latter winningthreeWNBA championships.
North Carolinais in seventh position,with the state producing 180 NBA and WNBA players,where4 have been inducted into the Hall of Fame.The stateis home totheNBA team,the Charlotte Hornets,as well as19 NCAA Division 1 teamsthat have led to 14championship wins – the second highest in the list.
Following in eighth place isPennsylvania,with 250male NBA players and 33 WNBA players born in the state,of which 12Hall of Fameinductees.The state is home to the Philadelphia 76ers, as well as14 NCAA Division 1 teams,including Bucknell University and Drexel University.
Louisianais ninth on the list,which has produced152 NBA and WNBA players in total, withseveninducted into the Hall of Fame.Louisiana’s homeNBAteamarethe New Orleans Pelicans,andthe state is alsohome to 12 NCAA Division 1 teams,such asthe men’sMcNeese State Universityand Nicholls State University.
Completing the list isOhio, with206 male and 38 female NBA players born in the state, of whichfiveare Hall of Fame inductees.TheCleveland Cavaliers are the state’s NBA team,and the Cleveland Charge arethe GLeague team,with the former winningthe NBA championshipin 2016.
