Sprints
It was quite a state meet debut for the Wizards' freshman. Raye went home from Brown Stadium with a trio of medals in the sprints — a silver in the 100 meters, a silver in the 200 meters and a bronze in the 400 meters.
Ailani Sutherland
Cranston West,Sophomore
Sprints
Sutherland dominated the 2021-22 academic year as the state’s fastest girl. She claimed individual and team glory at June’s outdoor championships, winning the 100 meters and 200 meters before anchoring the 4x100-meter relay to a state record.
Grace Carr
Cumberland, Junior
Middle distance
Carr won gold in her specialty at the outdoor state meet, coming home first in the 800 meters. Her time of 2 minutes, 14.29 seconds beat the field by more than a second and put her on the podium's top step.

Sierra Thompson
South Kingstown, Sophomore
Middle distance
Thompson was one of the breakout stars at Brown Stadium. She breezed to a 400-meter title, took fourth in the 200 and tied for sixth in the high jump to help power the Rebels into the top five of the team standings.
Sophia Gorriaran
Moses Brown, Junior
Distance,middle distance, sprints
Now a three-time state Gatorade Player of the Year, Gorriaran was stopped from starring at another state meet only due to a leg injury. She set a state 800-meter record — her 11th overall record between indoor and outdoor — with a top-3 national time in May and also had a top-40 national time in the 400 to establish a personal season best.
Rylee Shunney
East Greenwich, Junior
Distance
There are few tougher doubles to attempt than in the long distances, and Shunney took state meet gold in both the 1,500 meters and 3,000 meters. She dusted her two fields of competitors by more than 15 seconds combined, an impressive display of conditioning and mental focus.

Jacqueline Edoro
Classical, Senior
Hurdles
You could argue nobody enjoyed a better individual state meet than Edoro. She struck triple gold by sweeping the hurdles — 100 meters, 300 meters — and beating the field by more than two feet in the triple jump. The Purple finished second in the team standings partly thanks to her superb performance.
Lauren Boyd
Smithfield, Junior
Jumps
Boyd’s mark of 18 feet, 1 inch to win the long jump made her one of just three girls in the field to crack 17 feet. Her versatility showed in results elsewhere — bronze medals in both the triple jump and 100 meters.

Morgan Casey

Jumps
There was no credible threat to Casey’s dominance in the high jump this spring. She cleared 5 feet, 8 inches at the state meet to claim gold for the Patriots — no other athlete in the field topped 5-0.
Dasani Stewart
Pilgrim, Junior
Jumps
The jumps gave Stewart a stage to shine, and she did so nicely. Silver in the triple jump and fourth place in the long jump sent the Patriots junior into the summer ready for more in 2022-23.
Allyson Humphries
Classical, Senior
Pole Vault
Humphries wrapped up one of four individual golds for the Purple at the state meet by soaring above the field in the pole vault. Her vault of 11 feet was an even foot better than the competition.
Bethanie Jean-Philippe
Cranston East, Senior
Javelin
More than half the Thunderbolts team points came courtesy of the 10 banked by Jean-Philippe. Her toss of 117 feet, 10 inches was good for the top spot in a tight javelin event — that beat the field by less than three feet.
Liangie Calderon
Coventry, Senior
Throws
Calderon’s medal from the throwing events was the ideal color — gold. She won the hammer by more than five feet thanks to a distance of 165 feet, 4 inches. That came on her first throw of the finals, as Calderon wasted no time seizing the moment.
Weeko Thompson
Chariho, Sophomore
Throws
Two medals in the throws made for a nice performance at the state meet for Thompson. She missed gold in the shot put by less than two inches and claimed bronze in the discus — bettering both of those would be an ideal goal for 2022-23.
Alyssa Yankee
Cumberland, Junior
Throws
The Clippers finished fourth overall at the state meet with 40points, and Yankee gave them exactly half of those with wins in the shot put and discus. Those two gold medals came by less than three feet combined.
Cranston West 4x100 relay

These four Falcons set the day’s only record at the state meet, and they did it in style. Alves, Hobin, Parente and Sutherland clocked a time of 47.64 seconds to slip past Hope’s 2009 mark of 47.90. No other team in the field cracked 50.3 — it was a truly singular performance.
La Salle 4x400 relay

Caroline Cummings, junior;Aibhilin Drew, sophomore
The Rams put an exclamation point on their state meet team title with gold in the middle-distance relay. Cormier, Borin, Drew and Cummings held off the field by less than a second to give La Salle the second of its two event victories that day.

The Rams got off to the ideal start at Brown Stadium by rolling to victory in the longest of the three relay events. Bettez, Borin, Cummings and D’Amico controlled the field by more than nine seconds while setting the ideal tone for their state meet afternoon.
